Possible Remedies for Difficult Karma

Jyotish/ Vedic Astrology is an excellent method for delineating ones Karmic pattern - the good times, the bad times, the lessons that need to be learned, etc. However, many people are not so happy with the bad times and would like to improve the bad times if possible. Vedic understanding is that you can improve your difficult karmas through various karmic remedies.

Important Notice: Do not attempt to undertake karmic remedies without consulting a competent Vedic astrologer, Hindu priest or guru (except charity, which is always good, but can be maximized by giving the right amount to the right charity).

Yagyas / Homas

Yagyas (ancient Vedic ceremonies) are among the strongest remedial measures. Yagyas should only be undertaken under the advisement or direction of a competent guru, Hindu priest or Vedic astrologer. Acharya Anupam Jolly Maitrya and Dr. Himani J are great masters of yagyas, and many of his clients have had wonderful improvements in their lives (sometimes very suddenly) through these yagyas.

Gems

Acharya Anupam Jolly has developed a cautious and conservative method for gem recommendations based on ancient Vedic knowledge. Many hundreds of clients have follow his gem recommendations with great satisfaction. Anupam Jolly warns that just because a gem is acceptable, it is not necessarily desirable. He tries to find the most desirable gems for you.

Ideally, if you are going to use a gem for Jyotish purposes, it should touch your skin for maximum effect. The gem should also be blessed, have a yagya, and be worn for the first time on a certain day. However, it will still have some karmic effect without this.

Puja

Puja is the act of showing reverence to a god, a spirit, or another aspect of the divine through invocations, prayers, songs, and rituals. An essential part of puja for the Hindu devotee is making a spiritual connection with the divine. Most often that contact is facilitated through an object: an element of nature, a sculpture, a vessel, a painting, or a print.

During puja an image or other symbol of the god serves as a means of gaining access to the divine. This icon is not the deity itself; rather, it is believed to be filled with the deitys cosmic energy. It is a focal point for honoring and communicating with the god. For the devout Hindu, the icons artistic merit is important, but is secondary to its spiritual content. The objects are created as receptacles for spiritual energy that allow the devotee to experience direct communication with his or her gods.

Most Hindus believe in an immense unifying force that governs all existence and cannot be completely known by humanity. Individual gods and goddesses are personifications of this cosmic force. In practice, each Hindu worships those few deities that he or she believes directly influence his or her life. By selecting one or more of these deities to worship, and by conducting the rituals designed to facilitate contact with them, a Hindu devotee is striving to experience his or her unity with that cosmic force.

While scholars, philosophers, and priests debate the finer points of Hindu theology, lay worshipers call upon familiar gods to help with their everyday hopes and problems.

Why Puja

The malefic planetary conjunctions are the phases in ones life when ones aura gets darkened. Such a person is like one groping in the darkness. His thoughts and activities are misguided. The vibrations radiating from him displease others.

It is possible to reduce the suffering due to the unfavorable position of planets through sincere reliance on God, the One who controls the planets. Puja is the act of showing reverence to a god or another aspect of the divine through invocations, prayers and rituals. An essential part of puja for the Hindu devotee is making a spiritual connection with the divine.

The Indwelling Lord cannot turn a deaf ear to a soulful prayer said with an open heart. There are several pujas which people can do for specific events, such as the starting of a business, or the beginning of a journey. The benefit of this type of puja is to remove obstacles. The pujas are performed on behalf of those who request them by us.

Some of the benefits for doing specific pujas include:

Obtaining peace and happiness by getting rid of malefic forces.

Removing troubles that prevent us from starting on a spiritual path or business

Gaining material abundance, and spiritual prosperity.

Creating positive vibrations in the house, when starting new ventures such as a new job.

Removing obstacles if suffering from losses, when starting a new business or investments, when getting married.

Improving the general health of body and mind, for a speedy recovery from illness.

Increasing leadership skills, for increased courage and vital energy or to excel in martial arts.

We can enhance the benefit of the puja by doing spiritual practices or by taking certain vows. Some of the commonly observed practices include meditation, fasting, silence, prayer, mantra Japa or repeating Gods name, charity.

These vows can be done for one day, one week or as long as you wish. The result of these actions is to help purify us and to enable us to imbibe more deeply the spiritual energy invoked by the puja.

Fasting

Fasting is an art and there are many other structures to fasting that are too intricate to go into here. No one should undertake fasting without medical clearance and specific instructions.

Here is an example of a fast directed to specific planets: Fast Sunday for the Sun, Monday for the Moon, Tuesday for Mars, Wednesday for Mercury, Thursday for Jupiter, Friday for Venus, or Saturday for Saturn and Rahu.

Mantras

Mantras, generally, should only be used under the direction of a competent spiritual advisor or Vedic astrologer.

Please note that some mantras are very strong medicine indeed and should absolutely not be used by the general public. Do not pick a mantra out of a book and start using it. That is like going into a drug store and choosing a medicine at random. Its chancy at best, dangerous at worst.

However, there is a small number of widely known, public mantras that are generally safe for any adult.

Charity

Charity is always a good thing. If you engage in enough charitable giving, you can probably offset almost any bad Karma seen in your chart (up to 20%-50% of your income).

However, there are ways to maximize your charitable giving, according to the Vedic tradition. If you want spiritual benefits, probably Thursday is the best day to donate. If you want to grow in power and status, Sunday is the best day to give money or articles away. If you want more love, and physical enjoyment and creativity, most likely Friday is the best day.

The Vedic tradition also delineates classes of people and classes of animals who are the ideal recipient of your charity. This maximizes the effects of your charitable giving.
